1. Is the solder flux conductive?
There are many types of solder flux, one of which is the dielectric strength, the higher the better, most solder pastes are organic or acidic substances, organic substances are not conductive, acidic substances may be slightly conductive, but after welding on the circuit half , all volatilize, and only organic matter remains, which will not conduct electricity.
2. The function of solder flux
The functional parts of solder flux include: matrix, film remover and surfactant.
The matrix is the main component of the solder flux, which controls the melting point of the solder flux. After melting, it covers the surface of the solder joint and plays the role of isolating the air. At the same time, it is a solvent for other functional components.
The film remover is to remove, break or loosen the surface oxide film of the base metal through physical and chemical processes, so that the molten solder can wet the surface of the fresh base metal.
The surfactant can further reduce the interfacial tension between the molten solder and the base metal, and promote the better spreading of the molten solder on the surface of the base metal.
The main function of solder flux:
(1) During the brazing process, the oxides on the base metal and the surface of the liquid solder are removed to create conditions for the spreading of the liquid solder.
(2) Cover the surface of the base metal and solder with a thin layer of liquid to isolate the air for protection.
(3) It acts as an interface activity to improve the wetting and spreading performance of the liquid solder on the surface of the base metal.
3. The role of solder flux
1. Removal of surface oxides
Because the atmosphere contains oxygen, various substances are actually surrounded by a layer of oxides, and its thickness is about 2×10-9~2×10-8m. During welding, the oxide film will inevitably prevent the solder from wetting the base metal, and the welding will not proceed normally. Therefore, it is necessary to apply solder flux on the surface of the base metal to reduce the oxide on the surface of the base metal, so as to achieve the purpose of eliminating the oxide film. .
On the other hand, the high temperature of welding can easily oxidize the surface of welding materials. solder flux helps stop the oxidation process.
2. Reduce the surface tension of the material
The surface tension of the material will affect the welding quality. Another function of the solder flux is to reduce the tension of the material. The surface tension of the molten solder will prevent it from flowing to the surface of the base metal, affecting the normal wetting. When the solder flux covers the surface of the molten solder, it can reduce the surface tension of the liquid solder and significantly improve the wettability.
